The couple opened the store Jan. 6 in the building that once housed Stewart’s Pizza at the corner of School and Pond streets. They offer pizza, hot and cold subs, to-go meals, fresh crabmeat, cigarettes, beer and a selection of snacks and grocery items.

New to the menu is crabmeat pizza.

The crabmeat is from Laurie’s other business, Waterworld II, a wholesale crab processing plant in the industrial park.

The Kwik Stop is a second job for Brian as well. He has worked at the Verso Paper mill for 25 years. He hopes the new store will enable him to retire from the mill in a year or so.

Entering the retail business has been a learning experience for the couple, who say they have enjoyed getting to know their customers.

Locals were happy to see a store reopen at the spot, which has been vacant for nearly four years.

The couple are planning a grand opening for the store Feb. 5-7 that will feature a flat screen television giveaway.
